As President of BoardWorks, LLC, Alyson Ball consults with boards and Board President/Executive Director teams. She applies her extensive managerial experience and practical approach to teamwork, planning, and implementation to a wide variety of nonprofit organizations.

Alyson serves as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Virginia School of Continuing and Professional Studies in Charlottesville, Virginia. She teaches courses in board management as part of the university’s Certificate of Nonprofit Management.

Alyson is a popular speaker at meetings and conferences. She delivers customized presentations and interactive workshops on a range of topics related to nonprofit boards.

Alyson Ball holds a Certificate of Non-Profit Management from Duke University and an MBA in Marketing (International Business and Corporate Planning minors) from the Wharton School. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University.

Alyson consulted to an international development organization that provided micro-finance loans to women in Africa, Latin America, and Central Asia. Serving as a change agent within these organizations, she consulted with teams of local personnel to improve operations, marketing, and client service. To maximize the long-term effectiveness of these international projects, Alyson developed culturally-sensitive, skill-appropriate, and practical solutions that were customized to local problems. Training for local staff was included in most project implementations.

Prior to joining the development community, Alyson had a successful career in corporate business in strategic planning, marketing, and international venture management. At the end of her corporate career, Alyson was selected to manage a marketing organization in Auckland, New Zealand. During this assignment, Alyson successfully transferred best practice marketing skills to the local staff.

Alyson enjoys swimming, yoga and tennis, sings alto, and has traveled to all seven continents. Alyson lives in Ivy, Virginia with her inspiring husband, John, and incredible son, Jacob.
